Dear all,

Swamimalai alias Thiruveragam, the incomparable in terms of presiding deity, location and holy water (river), is located on the northern banks of Cauvery, which is the golden river in the Chola kingdom and is the fourth in the Six pilgrim centres mentioned in the Thirumurugatrupadai, sung by Sri Nakkeera. Thiruveragam is one of the six basic shrines found inside. Here, Lord Muruga is as Dhandapani, in the standing posture, with holy stick rooted to the ground, in the form of a Guru having given his teachings to his father. He has been blessing His devotees as a cure to this birth, ridding them of illnesses, animosity, and other failures.

The temple is formed with the merciful Lord Sri Swaminatha, in the shape of the holy phonetic sound OM and as Gnana Desika, acclaimed by all the people, located in the north banks of Cauvery and having the 60 devas of Tamizh years beginning with Prabhava and ending with Akshaya as entry steps. Sri Arunagiri Nathar, who lived in 15 BC and who had received the blessings of Lord Muruga, had visited this temple and sung in praise of the Lord.

Our very ancient Vinayaga is seated in this pride of place, aforementioned Swamimalai, with the names of Aadhi Vinayagar and Karpaga Vinayagar, in the temple located on the path walked by the Supreme Lord, giver of all that is sought and as stated in the exposition of the greatness of Lord Swaminatha, when Lord Shiva sent each of His troops in different directions, that is, Nivedhyam at Thiruppazhanam, the title, Eswara at Eechangudi, Moon at Thingalur, Nandi at the place called Nandi Madhagu, Bairava in the Bairava temple, Cows in Aduthurai, Ganapathy and other elements at Ganapathy Agraharam, Devas at Kapisthalam, Surya at Bhaskarapuram (Ramanujapuram), Sakthi at Andakkudy, sacrifice at Thyagasamudhram, Ganges at Gangadharapuram, Umayaval at Umayalpuram and lastly, left the quality of granting whatever sought at the very instance of seeking, Karpaga here and hence our merciful Vinayaga is seated to shower his blessings on the devotees.

The renovation of this temple with so much greatness, has been undertaken with the efforts and cooperation of the people of the North street, under the leadership and guidance of of Mrs. Mahalakshmi Subramanian, Chennai and which was commenced and got completed during the great rule of Amma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamizh Nadu.
